Sutkowski, RLI's outside general counsel from 1975 - 2002, is president of Sutkowski & Rhoades Ltd., a firm engaged in ERISA fiduciary litigation, federal income, estate and gift tax law. He founded the law firm in 1963.
Sutkowski has published several articles and presented numerous lectures over the past three decades. He has also been a member of the following committees: Section on Taxation of the Illinois State Bar Association (1963-present, chairman 1976-77), Business Advice & Financial Planning for the Illinois State Bar Association (1988-89), Member-Standing Committee on Judicial Appointments of the Illinois Bar Association (1990), Member-Board of Visitors of the University of Illinois College of Law (1993), Scope and Correlating Committee and New Publication Development Committee of the American Bar Association (1993-94), and Taxation Committee of General Practice Section of the American Bar Association (1993-96). Selected committee chairmanships include Federal Taxation Committee of the General Practice Section of the American Bar Association (1987), Secretary-Special Committee on Continuing Legal Education Programs (1988-89), and ISBA Representative to IICLE (1990). Sutkowski is an adjunct professor of tax law at the University of Illinois College of Law in Urbana. He has taught the senior-level pension and employee benefit law course since 1996.
Sutkowski received a B.A.A. in finance at University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1961 and an L.L.B. from University of Illinois College of Law at Urbana in 1963.
