Educated and trained in hotel and restaurant management at Cornell University, Ned developed a chain of 45 steak houses that was eventually sold to the Green Giant Corporation. In 1979, he formed Allen-Kearns, Inc., a real estate development company in Fort Lauderdale. Ned was the developer and owner of more than 3,000 manufactured homesites throughout Florida. In 1981, he was named president of Inter-Coastal Communities, and in 1988 was named chairman of the board/chief executive officer. Inter-Coastal was purchased and went public under the name Chateau Properties in 1993. Ned served on the board of directors for 10 years until its recent sale. In addition, Ned has been involved with numerous philanthropic organizations as a board member, including the Florida Ocean Sciences Institute, Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery & Science, WPBT Channel 2, Angel Flight Southeast and Give Kids the World. |
