Edward has represented public entities and private clients in a number of cases involving the California Environmental Quality Act, the State Planning and Zoning Law, the Coastal Act, the Subdivision Map Act, the Cortese-Knox-Hertzberg Act and the Mitigation Fee Act. Mr. Grutzmacher also serves as special counsel to a number of cities and public agencies. He joins us from a Southern California firm where he litigated cases under the California Environmental Quality Act, the California Coastal Act, the Public Records Act, and other governmental and environmental laws as both lead and co-counsel.As a law clerk for the California Attorney General's Office in the Sections of Environment, Land and Natural Resources, Edward was involved with the enforcement of both state and federal environmental statutes and the defense of California administrative agencies. He also assisted with the enforcement of federal environmental protection statutes at the United States Department of Justice in the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the Environmental Enforcement Section.During law school, Edward was a member of the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review and symposium editor of "Lex and the Lorax: Enforcing Environmental Norms in the International Arena." He also led two group discussions - one on torts and the other on contracts. Edward received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2003, his M.A. in English Literature from New York University in 2000 and his B.A.S. in Biology and English from the University of California at Davis in 1998. |
