Sweeney returned to National in May 2002 after recently serving as vice president of worldwide human resources at Vitria Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of integrated e-business software. Prior to that he was vice president of human resources for Candescent Technologies Corporation, a manufacturer of flat-panel displays.
From 1983 to 1998 he served as a vice president of human resources for National Semiconductor's Central Manufacturing Technology Group and also for the company's Analog Products Group. He also directly supported National's worldwide sales and marketing organization and the company's manufacturing facility in Greenock, Scotland. Sweeney has a bachelor's degree in organization behavior and an master's degree in human resources and organization development, both from the University of San Francisco.
