Eira Thomas was elected to Suncor�s Board of Directors in April 2006 and is a member of the audit committee and the environment, health and safety committee.
Ms. Thomas is president and chief executive officer of Stornoway Diamond Corporation, a corporation formed in July 2003 through a merger between Stornoway Ventures and Northern Empire Minerals. Previously, Ms. Thomas was president of Navigator Exploration Corporation and chief executive officer and director of Stornoway Ventures Ltd. Prior to joining these companies, she worked as a geologist with Aber Resources Ltd. (now Aber Diamond Corporation) from 1992 to 1997, leading the field exploration team that discovered the Diavik Diamond Project pipes in the Northwest Territories in 1994 and 1995, now one of Canada's most productive diamond mines. Ms. Thomas went on to become vice-president of exploration for Aber from 1997 to 1999, and still serves as a director. She is also a director of Strongbow Exploration Inc., Fortress Minerals Corp. and International Uranium Corporation.
Ms. Thomas also serves as a director on the board of the Northwest Territories Chamber of Mines, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, the University of Toronto (U of T) Alumni Association and the Lassonde Advisory Board of the U of T. She is also a member of the U of T President�s Internal Advisory Council.
In 2004, Ms. Thomas was honoured as one of "Canada's Top 40 under 40" by the Caldwell Partners and the Report on Business Magazine.
A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Ms. Thomas graduated from the U of T with a Bachelor of Science in 1990.
