Elizabeth Lawson is the SURA Executive Director. She is the lead administrative officer responsible for planning and implementing a broad scope of complex projects and initiatives for the organization. The Executive Director serves as an advisor to the President in corporate activities and is the liaison to the SURA Board of Trustees, Council of Presidents, and SURA leadership. She has been elected by the Board as the Corporate Secretary.
After a decade with the City of Newport News in the Library and Information Services Department where she was a member of the team that implemented the public library�s first automated system, she joined the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF), now Jefferson Lab, in 1985. Prior to joining the SURA corporate staff in early 1999, her experience at the Lab included administrative and management roles in human resources, procurement and contracting, and administrative services. She was an administrative officer to the Laboratory Director and to the Associate Director for Administration.
Ms. Lawson received the Secretary of the Department of Energy�s Gold Award for work on the DOE Quality Council and received the Secretary�s award for distinguished service as a founding member of the DOE Quality Awards Program.
Ms. Lawson is a summa cum laude graduate of Christopher Newport College and holds an MPA, honor graduate, from George Washington University. She also holds a masters certificate in Government Contracting from the George Washington University School of Government and Business Administration.
Ms. Lawson is a resident of Mathews County, Virginia, married to retired Newport News firefighter, Richard, and has two grown sons, Michael and Justin. She is a late-in-life runner and has run hundreds of road races and several marathons, including the Boston Marathon |
