Ms. Smith is a partner with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. She practices in the areas of general business and commercial litigation, securities litigation, employment litigation, intentional tort litigation, class action litigation, public law and government relations. From January 2003 to June 2005, Ms. Smith was appointed to serve as Chief Counsel to Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro, overseeing and participating in the State's significant civil litigation, involving the State's universities and university hospitals, community colleges and other two-year institutions, the Ohio Department of Education, employment and union issues, state contracts and general liability issues, transportation, workers' compensation, taxation, budget and election issues and, corporate governance and class action issues including securities litigation for the State's pension funds. Ms. Smith is a member of the Columbus, Ohio State, American Bar and Federal Bar (Past President) Associations. She has chaired the Common Pleas Court Committee of the Columbus Bar Association and the Federal Courts and Practice Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association, and is a fellow in the Columbus Bar Foundation. She is also a member of the Franklin County Women Lawyers Association. Ms. Smith is admitted to the Ohio Supreme Court, U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Smith's community activities currently include membership on the Board of Trustees for Heidelberg College; elected service in the Franklin County Republican Central Committee and chair of the Judicial Screening subcommittee; and membership on the Board for the Ohio Network of Child Advocacy Centers. |
