Elizabeth Ewert is counsel in the firm's Products Liability and Mass Tort and Commercial Litigation practice groups and has fifteen years of litigation experience in medical and pharmaceutical products liability, False Claims Act, fraud, construction and general commercial litigation. Elizabeth is a member of the state and federal bars in California and Washington, D.C., and has practiced extensively in both jurisdictions. Elizabeth has managed and litigated cases across the country, including multiple matters in Texas, Louisiana and West Virginia.
In General. Elizabeth has represented some of America's largest companies in mass, class and single-plaintiff actions involving allegations of defective products. Elizabeth has defended allegations related to marketed, recalled and withdrawn medical devices and medications, including preparation and presentation of witnesses from the highest corporate ranks at deposition, expert witness depositions, discovery and motion practice, class certification defense, pretrial strategy, jury research, mediation and arbitration. Elizabeth has defended qui tam actions under the federal False Claims Act, including recent participation in a jury trial in federal court in Washington, D.C. Elizabeth has been twice named one of Washington, D.C.'s, "Top Lawyers" in the civil litigation defense field by Washingtonian magazine in December 2007 and December 2004.
Professional Memberships. Elizabeth is admitted to the Superior Court and District Court of Washington, D.C., the State Court of California, all federal districts of California, and the Ninth Circuit and D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Elizabeth is a member of the Defense Research Institute.
Education. Elizabeth received her J.D. from Washington & Lee University in 1992 and her bachelor's degree from Georgetown University in 1988. While in law school Elizabeth was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award, torts; and Best Oralist, Davis Moot Competition; and was a member of the ODK Honor Society. |
