Elizabeth Hastings is an analyst in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm�s Washington, D.C. office. She is a member of the Firm�s Energy and Derivatives Markets Group.
Elizabeth has conducted internal investigations for clients who have been subpoenaed or requested to produce information by federal regulatory agencies, particularly in connection with energy market investigations of alleged market manipulation, false price reporting and wash trading. These inquiries include interviews of employees, analysis of trading activity, the preparation of witnesses for testimony, and assembly of evidence to rebut possible allegations of violations. Elizabeth has also assisted with litigation before Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and settlement negotiations with the CFTC. Elizabeth has 18 years of experience as a Futures Trading Investigator with the Division of Enforcement for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). While at the CFTC, she conducted investigations into possible violations of the Commodity Exchange Act, primarily in the market manipulation and trade practice areas. Her responsibilities included developing investigative plans, drafting subpoenas, taking testimony, reconstructing and analyzing trading activity, and testifying as a fact and expert witness.
Also at the CFTC she handled a series of highly publicized fraud cases involving floor trading practices on the New York exchanges. and assisted the Assistant U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in criminal investigations and prosecutions.
Elizabeth also worked as a market analyst with the Division of Enforcement for the Securities and Exchange Commission, where she primarily focused on investigations dealing with insider trading.
