Betsy, Director of the West Coast Office from 1999 through Sept. 2006, came to CU after 11 years as a public interest attorney in New York City. Beginning at CU in 1994, she focused on lobbying in the California legislature and advocating on policy issues related to insurance, health care, trade school regulation, and general consumer protection. Then, in 1999 she became Director of the West Coast Office, overseeing the office�s core work and grant-funded projects. She returned to her first love, consumer advocacy, as Director of Special Projects for CU in September 2006.
Before coming to CU, Betsy was the Consumer Law Coordinator of Legal Services for New York City and an attorney engaged in class action and other litigation at South Brooklyn Legal Services. Betsy graduated from Rutgers School of Law-Newark, and received her undergraduate degree from Columbia University. Betsy lives amongst the redwoods and rolling hills of West Marin with her high school-aged son Owen and chocolate Lab Papaya. Her two grown children Jennifer and Bill live in Queens, New York. |
