Ellen Vinck, ARM, is the vice president of risk management, benefits and safety for United States Marine Repair, Inc., the corporate entity for a family of shipyards located on the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts and Hawaii. Ms. Vinck started at Southwest Marine, Inc. in San Diego in 1980 as the assistant to the treasurer and was promoted to benefits manager in 1984. The position of risk manager was developed for her in 1986, which included basic risk management functions along with benefits.
In 1989, Ms. Vinck was promoted to corporate director of risk management, reporting directly to the CEO, with responsibilities including the purchase of insurance, risk financing, loss control, workers� compensation, claims administration and benefits (including health & welfare and retirement plans). In 1994, she additionally assumed responsibility for the medical and safety departments. In 1998, upon acquisition of Norfolk Shipbuilding & Drydock Corporation, she was promoted to the position of vice president of United States Marine Repair, Inc., the new parent company.
Ms. Vinck is current first vice president of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (RIMS). She has served on the board of directors of the San Diego Chapter of RIMS for 15 years, including chapter president in 1996, and was awarded their first Risk Manager of the Year award, also in 1996. Ms. Vinck will serve as RIMS President for 2005-2006. |
