Enrico Villa was born in Vimercate, near Milano (Italy) in 1941 and graduated in Electrical Engineering and in Business Administration at the Universit� Cattolica in Milano.
After beginning his career with Tecnomasio Brown Boveri as a market analyst, Villa joined SGS Fairchild (a forerunner company of STMicroelectronics), bringing his broad competence in both technology and business issues to a range of positions, from product and technology management to market research. In 1987 he took on the role of Vice President for External Technological Co-ordination at SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics (now STMicroelectronics). In May 1993 Villa�s responsibilities were extended to encompass the position of General Manager of SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics s.r.l., the Italian subsidiary of the Group, responsible for sales to Southern European countries, thus broadening his experience within the field of sales and marketing.
In January 1998, Villa became a member of the staff of the Company as Corporate Vice President of "Region 5," the sales and marketing organization that addresses emerging geographical markets around the world, including the Eastern European countries, Africa, India, Latin America, the Middle East, and Russia.
Villa was appointed Corporate Vice President for the Europe Region in January 2000 and took on the mission to reinforce the Company�s leading position in sales in Europe. Since January 1, 2005, ST�s Europe Region has been enlarged to include the countries that have recently become part of the European Union. In addition to these responsibilities, Villa continues to support External Technological Co-ordination for Italy and the European Union providing a valuable contribution to the development of the worldwide microelectronics industry. In the years 2003-2004, Villa also managed ICT activities and Corporate logistics for services.
Effective from January 1, 2005, Villa has also undertaken worldwide chairmanship of ST�s strategic program to offer system solutions to the broadest possible customer base.
In addition, he became Executive Vice President following the formation of the ST Corporate Executive Committee, comprised of six corporate executives in addition to the COO and the CEO.
Over and above his varied functions within the Company, Enrico Villa has been involved with several industry associations. From 1987 to 1994 he was Chairman of Electronic Components Group within the Associazione Nazionale Industrie Elettrotecniche ed Elettroniche (ANIE), the Italian Association of Electrical and Electronic Companies. Between 1993 and 1996 Villa was President of EECA, the European Electronic Component Manufacturers Association, and since 2003 he was re-elected to this position. In addition to his role as President of EECA, Villa is currently Chairman of the European Semiconductor Council within EECA, as well as Chairman for Europe of the Joint Steering Committee for the World Semiconductor Council.
