Eric F. Billings is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Friedman Billings Ramsey Group Inc. (NYSE: FBR) and a member of the Office of the Chief Executive. He founded the company with Emanuel Friedman and Russ Ramsey in 1989 as an independent research brokerage firm. Since then FBR has grown to become a leading national investment bank.
Mr. Billings was instrumental in creating FBR�s investment banking business in 1993. Initially based on the financial institutions sector the investment bank quickly grew to include real estate in 1994 when Mr. Billings identified the opportunity created by the drive for increased securitization in the $3 trillion United States real estate market.
Observing many of the same trends in the energy sector in 1997 Mr. Billings created FBR�s energy group which focuses on exploration and production (energy and power) companies pipelines and utilities. Today FBR focuses capital and financial expertise on eight industry sectors: consumer diversified industrials energy financial institutions healthcare insurance real estate and technology media and telecommunications.
Mr. Billings actively supports a number of charitable organizations personally and through the Friedman Billings Ramsey Charitable Foundation. He sits on the Boards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington Board of Visitors for the Robert H Smith School of Business and Greater Washington Sports Alliance. He is on the Board of Advisors for Capital Partners for Education the Board of Trustees for the Mid Atlantic Tennis Foundation a member of the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy and a founding member of the Bethesda Big Train Baseball Club.
Mr. Billings began his career in the securities industry in 1981 at Legg Mason. He was born in Boston MA and is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a B.A. in Economics and Finance. |
