Fred Ellis graduated from the College of Engineering with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from UNM in 1971. He worked 28 years for the New Mexico Department of Transportation, starting as a systems analyst in the Engineering Computer Unit and retired as the Systems Software Unit Manager. Fred managed the Engineering Unit with responsibility for engineering systems design on an IBM Mainframe with significant experience in multiple development languages as well as multiple IBM Operating Systems. Later Fred managed systems software for VAX, Unix, and PC systems, with responsibility for over 2,000 nodes in a statewide network, including systems, network and Internet / Intranet security.During the past 8 years Fred has worked as a senior consultant / systems architect for several top IT businesses in New Mexico, including his current position as a Network Engineer for Blue Jay Enterprises. In his capacity as Network Engineer for Blue Jay, he currently is contracted to the Santa Fe Public Schools as the principal systems architect, responsible for managing and maintaining a domain of over 5,000 nodes supporting 15,000 users at 30 sites spread out all over Santa Fe, NM. He has primary responsibility for the domain including active directory, LDAP, domain security, MS Exchange, CIPA security, primary network routers / switches, firewall and anti-virus appliances, and other systems.
