Fernanda Schmid is a litigation associate in FLK's Los Angeles office. Ms. Schmid focuses her practice on commercial litigation, including unfair competition, consumer fraud, securities matters and defense of legal professionals. Ms. Schmid is also Co-Chair of the firm's Attorneys' Committee. Prior to law school, Ms. Schmid worked at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, coordinating and processing requests to use copyrighted materials in the Museum's private collection. While in law school, Ms. Schmid worked in the General Counsel's office of the Getty Trust, the administrative arm of the Getty Museum. Representative Matters Defending leading vendor of red light camera systems in multiple unfair competition class actions brought by California drivers who received traffic tickets. Negotiated favorable early settlement two years prior to trial. Successfully obtained summary judgment prior to commencement of discovery on behalf of a national rental car company against federal suit alleging civil rights violations pursuant to 42 U.S.C. � 1983. Successfully obtained dismissal of legal malpractice action against prominent international law firm. Obtained a published appellate affirmance of the judgment. The published decision held, as a matter of first impression under California law, that a legal malpractice lawsuit must be dismissed where the law firm could not effectively defend the suit without revealing privileged client confidences. Lead counsel in over a dozen securities arbitration proceedings in California, Arizona, Idaho and Oregon on behalf of national securities broker dealer firms. Defending chief financial officer of a publicly traded software company in a complex federal securities class action lawsuit and government investigation relating to accounting and reporting practices. Conducting internal investigation of publicly traded company for potential accounting and reporting practices violations.
