Francis X. O'Brien received his A.B., magna cum laude, from Boston College in 1964, his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1969, and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1977. Mr. O�Brien is admitted to the bars of the states of New Jersey, New York and Florida, the United States Tax Court, and the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey and the Eastern District of New York. He practices in the areas of probate and trust law, real property, and also counsels various business entities.
Mr. O�Brien was employed as a bank trust officer engaged in the estate planning and administration areas prior to graduation from law school. He began his legal career at Carpenter, Bennett & Morrissey in 1970.
In his practice, he deals with personal planning for individuals, including will and trust planning, charitable foundations, charitable remainder trusts, and the administration of estates and trusts. Mr. O'Brien has extensive experience in dealing with various tax authorities in connection with the auditing of tax returns both for individuals filing personal income tax returns and gift tax returns and for estates filing estate tax returns, including negotiating the valuation of closely-held business interests.
Mr. O�Brien provides real estate services to clients of the firm; deals with owners of closely-held businesses in connection with general business,tax and succession planning and acts as outside general counsel to Christ Hospital, Jersey City, N.J.
Mr. O�Brien serves as a trustee of various charitable foundations and as a member of the Board of Directors for certain closely-held business clients. He is a member of the Monmouth County Bar Association; the New Jersey State Bar Association, including the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law and Tax Sections; and the Florida State Bar Association.
Mr. O�Brien has lectured for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education of New Jersey; taught as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University School of Law; and published various articles on both estate and trust, and real property issues. |
