Dr. Mish became Editor-in-Chief of Merriam-Webster, Inc. in 1992. He has played a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of scholarship and innovation in language reference publishing since joining the company in 1973. As a member of the Modern Language Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Linguistic Society of America, the Dictionary Society of North America, and the American Dialect Society, Dr. Mish has spoken on various aspects of the English language, and of dictionaries, for over 15 years. He also serves as a trustee of Davis & Elkins College, Elkins, West Virginia, and as an advisor to the Noah Webster Foundation, West Hartford, Connecticut. A 1959 graduate of Yale University, Dr. Mish holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English from the University of Minnesota. |
