Mr. Slawson practices in the areas of health and safety law, environmental law and toxic tort litigation.He represents clients across a range of industries, including petrochemicals and refining, manufacturing, oil and gas exploration and production, fishing and fish processing, and real estate.He advises clients on health and safety issues, including process safety management, hazard communication, incident investigations, employee training, exposure monitoring and notification, personal protective equipment, confined space entry, contractor issues and record keeping and reporting requirements. He has defended Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) enforcement actions.His comprehensive environmental law experience includes analyzing recycling and waste management issues, developing remediation projects under Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and defense for compliance orders and penalty notices under the RCRA, Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA) and related state regulations.Mr. Slawson has participated in Superfund settlement negotiations and the development of cleanup strategies. He has also advised clients on liability issues, scope of RCRA and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) exclusions, contribution and allocation and release reporting. He has defended CWA citizen suits and advises clients on CWA and CAA permit and monitoring issues, upset defenses, liability issues and release reporting.Additionally, Mr. Slawson applies his experience in environmental law to evaluating property transactions to minimize a client�s possible environmental liability, reviewing diligence assessments and writing indemnification clauses for lease and purchase agreements.In his tort litigation practice, Mr. Slawson has experience in matters related to exposures to hydrocarbons (including benzene and chlorinated solvents), asbestos, hydrogen sulfide and other sulfur compounds, and other chemicals. He coordinates expert work, conducts discovery and prepares pleadings and briefs concerning discovery, privileges, exclusion of expert testimony and summary judgment issues.A frequent presenter at leading professional programs, Mr. Slawson speaks on topics including environmental compliance and OSHA regulations.Before joining Liskow & Lewis, Mr. Slawson worked in the oil and energy industries for companies that included Amoco and General Electric. |
