Gaines Sturdivant assumed the responsibilities of President of MMI Hotel Group in September, 1988. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Sturdivant began management training in Vicksburg and Jackson, Mississippi. He has held positions of Assistant Manager and Food & Beverage Director. In 1981, he served as General Manager of the two Tallahassee Holiday Inns. He was soon promoted to Project Coordinator in MMI's home office. Since 1983, he has worked both in Technical Services, developing MMI's Cabot Lodge concept, and in marketing, selling, developing and implementing marketing strategies for MMI properties. In 1985, Sturdivant was promoted to Executive Vice President and then President in 1988. In 1987, Sturdivant took a leave of absence to attend the Harvard Business School, completing its Program for Management Development. He holds the designation of Certified Hotel Administrator from the American Hotel & Motel Association. He also serves on various industry-related committees of the American Hotel & Motel Association, as well as Past President of the International Association of Holiday Inns, its Franchisee Organization. |
