Gale Berkowitz joined the Foundation in 2005. As evaluation director, Gale directs the building, integration, and delivery of evaluation within the Foundation. She works closely with program staff to develop and implement assessments of the effectiveness of Foundation grantmaking and promotes a culture of practical implementation and learning.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Gale held a similar position at the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, where she provided leadership and support in the design, implementation, and management of a range of organizational learning and program evaluation activities across the foundation�s operating programs and major grants.
As a seasoned evaluator, she has served the health and education sectors, providing evaluation and management consultation, health services research, and policy analysis for a variety of foundations and community service organizations, as well as federal, state, and local governments.
Gale received her bachelor�s degree from the Johns Hopkins University and received her doctorate in public health from the University of California at Berkeley. Gale has authored several articles including, Culwell AC, Berkowitz G, and Christen A. (2004). What Foundations Need to Know and Why. She is program cochair of the Nonprofit and Foundation Technical Interest Group of the American Evaluation Association, is a member of The Johns Hopkins University Alumni Council, and has served on the Kensington Community Council since 1999. |
