Gary A. Zarkin, PhD, is director of RTI�s Behavioral Health Research Division. He has led or participated in several projects involving the economic analysis of drug treatment, prevention, and studies of workplace substance abuse. Dr. Zarkin has published several papers on cost, cost-effectiveness, and the benefit-cost of substance abuse interventions. He recently led the development of a new method to estimate the cost of services for methadone treatment. He was previously an assistant professor of economics at Duke University and a research associate professor in Duke University�s Institute of Statistics and Decision Sciences. He has published extensively in economic, substance abuse, and health service journals, including the American Journal of Public Health, Evaluation and Program Planning, Health Services Research, Inquiry, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Studies on Alcohol, and Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment. |
