Gary P. Scholten is senior vice president and chief information officer of the Principal Financial Group.
Scholten joined the company in 1980 as an assistant planning analyst and was named planning analyst in 1981, systems analyst in 1984, senior systems analyst in 1987 and senior systems coordinator in 1988. He was elected an officer and named assistant director in 1989, director of information systems in 1992, second vice president - information services in 1994, vice president - retail information services in 1998, and to his present position in 2002.
Scholten is a fellow of the Life Office Management Institute and chaired the LOMA Individual Product Systems Committee. In his first year as CIO, Scholten was named to Insurance & Technology Magazine's "2003 Elite 8" list. This award is given annually to eight CIO's from across the country who are identified as making significant, measurable contributions to their organizations through their abilities to lead, make smart decisions, and get results. |
