Eklin was started with encouragement from several well-known equine practitioners, including advisor A. Kent Allen of Virginia Equine Imaging. Cantu applied his prior imaging and informatics experience and corporate relationships to create a new imaging platform for the veterinary market. Prior to founding Eklin, Mr. Cantu was founder, President and CEO of PhorMax Corporation, a venture capital-backed company developing high-performance, low-cost Computed Radiology (CR) products for the human healthcare market based on CR imaging plates from Agfa. Mr. Cantu was also the founder of DenOptix, a privately funded company which created a complete replacement for dental film based on CR technology developed both internally and under license from Fuji Photofilm, Japan. In 2002 DenOptix (now ALARA) purchased PhorMax. In 1996, Dentsply purchased the world-wide rights to the DenOptix dental product line. Mr. Cantu holds over 30 issued and pending patents in the fields of imaging, image processing, informatics, and devices. Mr. Cantu has held engineering development and management roles at Spectra-Physics, Molecular Dynamics and Diablo Research before starting his own companies.
