Description of Practice:
Gary is a partner in the firm's Orange County office and is vice-chair of the firm's Real Estate practice group. He is a recognized transactional lawyer who handles real estate transactions of all sizes on a national basis representing commercial, retail, industrial, office, and residential developers in a wide range of projects. Gary was selected as one of the top real estate lawyers in America by Woodward/White's Best Lawyers in America in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. Additionally, since 2004, Gary has been selected by his peers as a Southern California Super Lawyer, while The Los Angeles Times quoted Gary as a "top lawyer in Los Angeles" in the field of real estate.
From 2004 to 2007, Gary closed deals in excess of $4 billion. He has handled such varied projects as an office complex for the United States Government of 560,000 square feet in Southern California, a $30 million co-generation facility, a $200 million hospital addition, a ground lease for an office project of 3.4 million square feet, and the development and sale of a million square foot retail center.
The following matters are representative of Gary�s transactions:
Represented a seller in a $450 million disposition of a California portfolio of office, bio-tech and residential properties located in San Francisco, Alameda, Los Angeles and San Diego
Represented a developer in a ground lease of a 3.4 million square foot office campus in Silicon Valley-this transaction was the largest entitled land deal in the Silicon Valley in 2001
Represented a seller in the disposition of 100 properties with a total value of $270 million in eight states
Represented a seller in structuring and closing a sale involving over 437,000 acres of land, which was one of the largest private land sales in California history and one of the largest conservation sales in the United States
Represented a buyer in the acquisition of over 4,000 leased properties located in 33 states and 3 Canadian provinces
Represented a buyer in the acquisition of a portfolio of 58 fiber optic agreements located in 20 states and Canada
Represented a buyer in structuring the acquisition of 55 retail stores located in 4 western states
Represented a buyer of land to support 3.5 million square feet of development in New Jersey
Represented a tenant in a 1.2 million square foot lease in Omaha, Nebraska
Represented a landlord in a 1.2 million square foot lease in Pennsylvania
Represented a landlord in a 1.05 million square foot lease in Chicago, Illinois
Gary has authored a chapter on construction management issues for Mathew Bender and has written numerous articles covering such subjects as "Organizing and Planning a Project" and "The Role of Construction and Development Management." He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the International Council of Shopping Centers, and the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks. Gary is very active in community affairs and serves on several nonprofit boards.
