George James is Vice Chairman of Citi Alternative Investments and a member of Citi's Management Committee. Previously, he was a founder and co-CIO of Old Lane.
Before being named to the position at Old Lane, Mr. James spent 24 years at Morgan Stanley working in the Fixed Income business. While there, he headed the Global Fixed Income Derivatives Products Group, Government Bond Trading, International Securitization, and, lastly, all credit-related business including Securitization, Mortgages, and Corporate Credit. In addition, Mr. James was responsible for all bank lending risk decisions and drove the development of the bank product. While stationed in London for 14 years, he was instrumental in building a market-leading presence in fixed-income derivatives and international securitization.
At Morgan Stanley, Mr. James served as Chairman of Morgan Stanley Derivatives Products, an AAA-rated subsidiary, as well as Director of Ansett Worldwide, the aircraft-leasing subsidiary of Morgan Stanley. In addition, he was a member of the Fixed Income Executive Committee, the Morgan Stanley Capital Commitment Committee, and the Firm's New Product Committee, which approved all types of new transactions done by the Firm's trading divisions.
Mr. James earned a BA from Reed College, Portland, Oregon, in Mathematics, and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Finance. He is a Trustee of Reed College, where he co-chairs the Investment Committee. He is a past director of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association.
