Jerry Coker devotes his practice to working with companies on a broad range of labor and employment matters, with an emphasis on wage and hour law compliance, union organizing drives, NLRB representation cases, union corporate campaigns and strikes, and the investigations and trials of NLRB unfair labor practice cases. He has assisted companies in more than 110 union election cases throughout the U.S., as well as numerous union organizing drives that did not proceed to an election. These representation cases involved employers in manufacturing, distribution, retail, hospitality, health care and airlines. The unions in the vast majority of these matters were the Teamsters Union, the Machinists Union, the United Auto Workers Union, the United Food & Commercial Workers Union and the Hotel Employees Restaurant Employees Union. Jerry also regularly negotiates contracts for companies with unionized workforces and advises employers on how to handle all labor and employment issues associated with mergers and acquisitions.
Jerry is the past Chairman and a current member of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Georgia Bar, as well as a member of the American Bar Association and the Atlanta Bar Association. He is also AV� Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Jerry is also listed in Best Lawyers in America.
Jerry co-authored "Labor Liabilities Can Haunt Mergers" which appeared in the June 5, 2000 edition of The National Law Journal and is co-chapter editor of Chapter 25 (The National Labor Relations Act) of Employment Discrimination Law, ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law (The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc.). He is also a popular lecturer/workshop facilitator and has conducted numerous management training seminars on how to maintain union-free status and avoid serious employee relations problems. Jerry presented human resources management workshops at the 1988, 2002 and 2004 National Automobile Dealers Association Conventions. In 2006 he was named to the board of directors of the National Association of Dealer Counsel.
