In addition to general and forensic accounting auditing and financial analysis skills Jerry has specific experience in advising clients with regards to preparing and negotiating insurance claim settlements. Prior to joining Huron as a founding Managing Director Jerry was a partner at Arthur Andersen LLP. He has more than nineteen years of experience and has been devoted exclusively to assisting clients in litigation and insurance claims matters and forensic investigations since 1991. Jerry has assisted clients in the retail professional services energy telecommunications consumer products commercial airline advertising publishing sports and recreation healthcare and manufacturing industries.
Professional Experience
Insurance Claims Consulting
Supervised and performed various procedures and tasks to calculate lost profits property damage and mitigating/extra expenses and other economic losses for insurance claims totaling more than $750M on behalf of numerous clients.
Assisted several companies in preparing insurance claims for damages resulting from Hurricanes Andrew Fran Marilyn Bertha Georges Mitch and Floyd and the Midwest Floods of 1993.
Participated as a presenter and panel member in seminars sponsored by various business organizations and insurance brokers; including the Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc.; to provide counsel and advice to businesses suffering catastrophic losses.
Co-authored article "Is Your Business Prepared for Another Hurricane?" which was published in the Summer 1999 edition of ManuFACTS.
Litigation and Financial Consulting
Supervised a team analyzing the impact of potential products liability and general liability exposures on the joint excess insurance program of a Fortune 100 company and a joint venture entity. The complex analysis incorporated various scenarios to consider many different independent variables including allocation methodology trigger different underlying primary insurance programs previous exhaustion insolvencies settlement agreements and claim priority.
Prepared a cash flow forecast financial analyses expert witness testimony and developed cross-examination strategies for various testifying experts. A foreign multi-national food manufacturer acquired a major U.S. corporation for approximately $3B and subsequently became involved in a dispute with the IRS regarding various purchase-price allocation and financing issues. The total amount of after-tax dollars in dispute on one issue alone exceeded $100M in the subject tax year. The tax court decided in favor of Jerry's client.
Supervised and prepared analyses to assist clients in matters pertaining to purchase price disputes including negotiations arbitration and litigation.
Acted in capacity of an arbitrator to resolve post-transaction purchase price disputes involving a consumer products company and professional sports franchise.
Provided pro-bono testimony regarding damages on behalf of claimants pursuing compensation from the September 11th Victims Compensation Fund ("Fund") in accordance with Public Law 107-42 and final regulations issued by the United States Department of Justice and Fund Special Master issued on March 7 2002.
