Gerard Eldering is Director of the Technology Transfer Office at The MITRE Corporation. He is responsible for the management of the company's intellectual property portfolio, licensing activities, and corporate investments in technology transfer. MITRE generates intellectual property from its federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) and internal research and development program. The company has a portfolio of more than 75 patents and patent applications. Mr. Eldering also supports the DoD Defense Venture Catalyst (DeVenCI) Program.
Since establishing the Technology Transfer Program in 1999, Mr. Eldering has led a change in corporate culture at MITRE, which has resulted in a dramatic increase in patent activity and establishment of a dynamic licensing program. Under his leadership, the Technology Transfer Program has completed more than 125 licenses including innovative applications of open source and startup licensing models. He is active in the Washington, D.C., business community and involved in programs that support technology-based economic development. He co-chairs the Potomac Conference Technology Transfer Task Force.
During his career at The MITRE Corporation, Mr. Eldering has held leadership roles in strategic initiatives in the areas of aviation, emergency warning, and nanotechnology. In 1997, he led a MITRE business planning team for the SkySource aviation joint venture and subsequently served as Director of Marketing for the venture.
Prior to joining MITRE, Mr. Eldering served as an officer and helicopter instructor pilot in the U.S. Air Force, where he flew for the prestigious First Helicopter Squadron at Andrews Air Force Base. In addition to an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland, Mr. Eldering holds a B.S. in Physics.
