Mr. Murphy joined RatnerPrestia with a background in all aspects of intellectual property law developed over seventeen years of private and corporate practice. A Senior Patent Attorney for more than ten years with the Henkel Group, he has intensive experience in developing and managing domestic and international patent portfolios, client counseling, patent enforcement, licensing, export control, and inter partes actions in the U.S. Patent Office , the International Trade Commission , and the U.S. District and Appellate Courts. Mr. Murphy has also provided due diligence advice in numerous acquisitions, divestments, and other transactions involving intellectual property rights. In both private and corporate practice he has encountered a broad range of technologies, including detergents, cosmetics, coatings and inks, nutritional supplements, adhesives, antibiotics, NSAIDs, steroids, insulins, fermentation, polymers, software, and business methods. He believes that by developing an understanding of and sympathy for his clients' matters, he can best help them achieve their intellectual property objectives. After receiving his B.S. in chemical engineering in 1984 from the Pennsylvania State University , Mr. Murphy worked as an engineer for the Cochrane Division of Crane Company, designing and delivering large-scale industrial water treatment systems. In 1990 he received his J.D. with honors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served as an editor of the school's Journal of Law and Commerce and received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Legal Scholarship.
