Glenn Pires is entering his fifth season as a member of the Dolphins� coaching staff and the first in his current role.
Pires joined the Dolphins after spending each of the previous two years (2001-02) as linebackers coach with the Detroit Lions. He got his start in the NFL coaching ranks tutoring the linebackers with the Arizona Cardinals in 1996, and spent the next five years in that post.
Pires was a four-year letterman (1976-79) as an offensive lineman at Springfield (Mass.) College. After earning his bachelor�s degree in education from the school in 1980, he embarked on his coaching career as an assistant at Melrose (Mass.) High School. In 1983, he went to Syracuse as a graduate assistant and served the next two years with the Orange. After earning his master�s degree in education from Syracuse, Pires got his first full-time position in the collegiate ranks, tutoring the linebackers and defensive line at Dartmouth College in 1985. After four years at the Ivy League school, he returned to Syracuse in 1989 where he served as both defensive line coach (1989-90) and outside linebackers coach (1991-94). He then had a one-year stint (1995) as outside linebackers coach/recruiting coordinator at Michigan State University.
A native of New Bedford, Mass., Pires and his wife, Lynn, have a daughter, Jackie, and a son, Michael. |
