Dr. Serafica is a co-founder of Xylos. Dr. Serafica has a Doctorate of Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and has extensive experience of over 14 years with biosynthetic cellulose research through both his academic career with RPI and Xylos. He currently holds over 10 U.S. and international granted patents. He has several publications on microbial cellulose and has presented his research work at numerous technical conferences including the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Biotechnology Division of the American Society of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Dr. Serafica has also given oral presentations at several wound healing conferences including the Wound Healing Science and Industry and the Symposium for Advance Wound Care (SAWC) .Dr. Serafica was the principal investigator of the National Institute of Health-Small Business Innovative Research (NIH-SBIR) grant awarded to Xylos to develop the biosynthesized cellulose wound dressing. Prior to his research activities on microbial cellulose, Dr. Serafica spent several years on protein bioseparations and advanced membrane technologies at RPI and Amicon, Inc. (division of Millipore). |
