Mr. Johnson earned a double major degree in economics and history from the University of Western Ontario. He was varsity captain and Men's team captain of the largest intercollegiate rowing team in eastern Canada during his competitive years, he was OUAA champion twice, provincial champion four times and a Canadian Henley gold medallist.
Mr. Johnson commenced his career as an insurance agent for National Life. He was agent of the month six times, and group agent of the year in 1985, and sales manager all within his first three years. During these years Mr. Johnson volunteered his free time as a coach for the University of Toronto rowing team.
During the early stages of the digital satellite launch in Canada, Mr. Johnson served as district manager for Ontario with Tee-Com Electronics. Later, he joined Softec as Vice President of Corporate Development, responsible for sales and contract negotiations. As one of the pioneers of the online gaming industry, Mr. Johnson signed on twelve North American tracks for simulcast feeds and more than forty gaming licensees. During his tenure, Softec became the fastest growing company in its sector, growing from a private company valued at $8 million to a publicly traded company with a market capitalization in excess of $500 million.
Prior to joining Swiss Medica, Mr. Johnson launched the publicly traded, Healthnet International in 1999, which brought natural health retailers online and offered 20,000 items at deep discounts. As a tribute to the success of Healthnet International, Solomon Smith Barney issued a report in 2000 that called Healthnet�s business model one of the best new eCommerce models. The company won several design awards and worked with high profile clients, such as GNC and Sears health and fitness. Healthnet ultimately reached a peak valuation of $85 million and during this same period, Healthnet rebuilt and re-launched Mothernature.com, which continues to operate.
While Grant Johnson serves as Swiss Medica�s President and Chief Operating Officer, he continues to volunteer his spare time to Towards Excellence, a government-sponsored organization dedicated to assisting young entrepreneurs.
Married, with four children, Mr. Johnson is a captain, a coach, a pioneer, a mentor and a leader. |
