Dr. Spear is currently a Professor in the Department of Immunology / Microbiology at Rush University. He is an expert in several areas of HIV research. Dr. Spear is an editor of the Journal AIDS Research and Therapy. He has received many grants from NIH and has over 87 peer-reviewed publications. He serves on study sections for NIH and has served on scientific review boards of the American Cancer Society and Leukemia Research Foundation. He has been involved in Sigma Xi and the Autumn Immunology Conference. His main contributions include the discovery of mechanisms of complement and antibody in immune destruction and clearance of HIV from the blood of infected persons alternative receptors in HIV entry of cells and fact or sin female genital tract that enhance replication of HIV. |
