Admiral Johnson recently completed a distinguished 36-year naval career. He was a naval aviator, and over the years deployed throughout the world in several carriers including USS Independence, Nimitz, Forrestal, Eisenhower and Theodore Roosevelt. He commanded at every level: Squadron, Carrier Air Wing, Carrier Battle Group and Sixth Fleet. He also held several significant staff positions, including Executive Assistant to the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Colin L. Powell; Military Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense, Dr. John Hamre; and Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense, William S. Cohen. For the past three years, Admiral Johnson served as commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa, and as commander of Allied Forces Southern Europe, where he was responsible for all NATO operations in the Southern and Eastern regions of NATO's area of influence. Admiral Johnson received his BA in political science from the University of Maine, and is a graduate of the Naval War College Command and Staff Course. |
