Mr. Thorpe specializes in the interaction between technical, economic and governance of competitive electricity markets and has over 25 years experience in the power industry. Prior to joining CRA he held key roles in the management and development of important economic, technical, and governance functions of competitive electricity markets in Australia. His prior positions have been with a with a major utility, a competitive market and system operator where he had responsibility for a key development and regulatory function, and as an associate director of the National Electricity Code Administrator during its formation and initial years of operation. He is an experienced power system engineer and has managed central operations associated with dispatch and operational planning and designed high voltage networks within a vertically integrated utility. He experienced the utility's corporatization, privatization, and transition into more than 12 participants of the national market for electricity. For CRA, he has advised Australian and international clients on a diverse range of policy initiatives, regulatory reviews, and proposals for change by the market institutions. Clients have included regulators, retailers, generators, network managers, and government authorities within Australia and internationally. He has led multi-disciplined expert teams in engagements that have addressed economic, technical, commercial, and governance issues across competitive and regulated sectors of electricity and gas markets as well as renewable and embedded generation issues. |
