Harper S. Batts is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Silicon Valley office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department.
Harper focuses his practice on IP litigation including both patent and trademark matters. He has experience in the semiconductor industry, computer networks, ultrasound technology, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and consumer products.

Siliconix v. Panasonic - represented Panasonic in the Northern District of California relating to a number of patents.
02Micro v. Monolithic Power - represented patent holder in litigation in the Northern District of California.
Matsushita v. Samsung - representing Matsushita in ongoing patent litigation in various cases.
General Electric v. Volumetrics Medical Imaging, LLC - representing GE in ongoing patent litigation in the Middle District of North Carolina.
Matsushita v. Mediatek - represented Panasonic in numerous patent infringement actions involving MediaTek resulting in a settlement.
Harper earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law and his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University. During law school he worked at a local IP boutique firm in Miami, before working at the Miami office of McDermott in his final year of law school. In addition to this, Harper served as a judicial extern to Senior U.S. District Court Judge Ryskamp in Palm Beach. He interned at the Office of International and Legislative Affairs at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which included work on issues involving WIPO, the PCT and TRIPs. During law school he was a recipient of the Harvey T. Reid Scholarship. Harper also completed a three-year program for Intensive Arabic Language Study at the American University of Cairo Arabic Language Institute in Egypt.
He is admitted to practice in California and is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Harper is proficient in both Spanish and Arabic. Harper is a member of the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association.
