Henry Leeds is of counsel of the firm and a recognized leader in the trademark community, with considerable experience in the field of copyrights. His practice over the past four decades has encompassed all aspects of trademark and copyright law, from the adoption and selection of marks to their registration, protection and defense, both nationally and internationally. His clients range from multinational corporations to individual entrepreneurs. He is considered an authority on ex parte and inter partes matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Since 1956, Henry has been a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and Michigan. He is a past director of the D.C. Bar Association, having served as chairman of its Patent Trademark and Copyright Section. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Michigan Bar Association, the International Trademark Association (INTA), and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
Henry has been an adjunct professor of trademark law at The George Washington University National Law Center. He served as a member of the Secretary of Commerce's Public Advisory Committee on Trademark Operations in the Patent and Trademark Office from its inception, for more than 25 years. He has also served as a member of the editorial board of the Patent Trademark and Copyright Journal of the Bureau of National Affairs since 1976.
Henry was a member of a blue-ribbon committee of trademark experts known as the Trademark Review Commission, which reviewed the United States Trademark Law from 1985 to 1988, and was responsible for the drafting of the Trademark Law Revision, which became effective November 16, 1989.
In General. Henry frequently lectures at forums of the INTA, bar groups, industry conventions and training programs for trademark examiners in the Patent and Trademark Office, and he has lectured on behalf of the Practising Law Institute. He is a past director of the INTA, past chairman of its Patent and Trademark Office Committee, a current member of its Patent and Trademark Office Committee, and a member of the INTA Government Corporation Study Group, which has considered the desirability of the Patent and Trademark Office becoming a government corporation.
Henry also is the author of Intent to Use Its Time Has Come, with the first commentary on the Intent to Use Trademark Legislation, which Congress enacted in 1989. |
