Herbert A. Browne Vice Admiral, USN (Ret.) President and CEO, AFCEA After his 36-year naval career, Vice Admiral Browne joined GRC International, an AT&T company, where he served as Vice President of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Applied Technologies. When offered the opportunity to serve as AFCEA International, President and CEO he joined the Association s staff in October 2001. Vice Admiral Browne s military career included work in various aspects of the Navy and the joint arena. He retired in 2000 from the position of Deputy Commander in Chief of the U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM), Colorado Springs, Colorado. During his two-year tour with USSPACECOM, he was instrumental in establishing computer network defense as a new mission area across the Department of Defense. Prior to his work at USSPACECOM, Vice Admiral Browne was the Commander of the U.S. Third Fleet, San Diego, where he directed renovation of the fleet s command ship, setting a new standard for afloat command and control (C2). He also established the Third Fleet as the leader in U.S. Navy C2 systems experimentation. Vice Admiral Browne has more than 15 years of senior-level experience in C2 systems integration in aircraft, command ships and space systems. He accumulated more than 5,000 hours in tactical aircraft as a weapons control systems operator. In his work with space systems, the Admiral s responsibilities included the Navy s space surveillance network and the ultrahigh frequency military satellite communications constellation. While serving in the Navy, the Admiral received the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal. For work with the Intelligence community he received the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Medal of Distinguished Service and the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) Medallion for Excellence. In 2004 he was selected to The FEDERAL 100 for his support of Government/Industry partnerships. |
