Herman Cain has served as a director of Whirlpool Corporation since 1992. He is a member of the finance committee and the human resources committee of the board of directors.
Cain is the CEO and President of THE New Voice, Inc., a business and leadership consulting company, specializing in keynote speaking and inspirational publications. He is past Chairman of the board of Godfather's Pizza, Inc. and past Chairman, CEO and president of the National Restaurant Association (food service industry). He was employed at The Pillsbury Company from 1977 until 1988. During his tenure, he held various positions, including vice president of corporate systems and services and regional vice president of Burger King in Philadelphia. In 1986, Cain was appointed president of Godfather's Pizza, Inc., then a Pillsbury subsidiary. In 1988 Cain successfully led a group of Godfather's Pizza senior management in negotiating the purchase of the pizza chain from Pillsbury where he served as CEO and president for ten years. Prior to joining Pillsbury, Cain also was employed by the Department of the U.S. Navy and Coca-Cola. He is also a member of the National Commission on Economic Growth and Tax Reform, chaired by former Republican Vice-presidential candidate, Jack Kemp.
Cain holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Morehouse College, and a master's degree in computer science from Purdue University. He is a recipient of the 1996 Horatio Alger Award. He has received eight honorary doctorate degrees from Morehouse College, New York City Technical College, Suffolk University, Johnson & Wales University, Creighton University, Purdue University, Tougaloo College and the University of Nebraska. He was the 1991 recipient of the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association's Operator of the Year/Gold Plate Award. He also was named one of Ebony magazine's 100 Most Influential Black Americans, 1997 and 1999.
Cain also serves on the boards of AGCO, Inc., Aquila, Inc., Reader's Digest Association, Inc., and Hallmark Cards Incorporated.
He is the author of four books. He is a native and current resident of Atlanta, GA and is married with two children and two grandchildren. |
