Howard Lax is in the business of business. In his role as a partner in the firm of Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin, P.C. he specializes in financial institutions, consumer compliance and regulatory affairs, and real property law.Prior to joining Lipson Neilson, Mr. Lax spent more than a decade with the Legal Services Division of NBD Bank, most recently in the position of Second Vice President and Senior Attorney. He served as counsel to NBD Mortgage Company and NBD Bank (now part of Bank One - Michigan, a division of JPMorgan Chase Bank, National Association), as well as consumer lending counsel for private banking, manufactured housing lending, the cooperative housing share loan program and other residential loan programs. Mr. Lax has written several articles and participated in numerous seminars, including "Michigan Residential Real Estate Documents" and "Preparation and Handling of Michigan Real Estate Closings" for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), and "Federal Regulation of Mortgage Transactions" for the Florida Bar Association's Advanced Mortgage Law Seminar. He has given many presentations to compliance officers, lenders, auditors, compliance officers, and loan managers regarding regulatory and real estate issues and concerns, and documentation of consumer loans.Howard Lax is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and its Business Law Section, as well as the Real Property Law Section, where he is a member of the Section's governing council, and serves on the Condominiums, PUDs and Cooperatives Committee, the Mortgages and Related Financing Devices Committee, Security Interests Committee, the Residential Transactions Committee, and the On-line Publications Committee. Mr. Lax also contributes resources for real estate attorneys for the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
