Hoyt Sze is a partner in McDermott Will & Emery LLP's Los Angeles office, where he is a member of the Firm's Trial Department. Hoyt practices in the areas of white collar criminal litigation, health care fraud and abuse, and other government investigations.
Prior to joining the Firm, Hoyt was a deputy federal public defender in the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles and Santa Ana for four years. Hoyt represented clients in a broad range of federal criminal matters, including tax, banking and environmental cases. Hoyt is an experienced trial lawyer and has been lead counsel in several complex trial and appellate matters.
Before joining the Office of the Federal Public Defender, Hoyt was in private practice for 5 years. Hoyt handled diverse transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures, for health care providers and health maintenance organizations. He also counseled clients on fraud and abuse and other investigatory matters. Hoyt handled several pro bono matters and, in 2001, received the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area Distinguished Service Award.
While in law school, Hoyt served as an editor of the Cornell Law Review.
Hoyt is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
