Ian Shaffer, MD is MHN�s chief medical officer, responsible for setting the clinical policies and guidelines under which the company�s clinical services operate. Dr. Shaffer oversees MHN�s professional relations, quality improvement and disease management units. Further, he is accountable for the coordination of clinical delivery throughout MHN�s provider network of 42,000 clinicians, and for its measurement through the quality improvement department.Dr. Shaffer joined MHN in 2003. Prior to this, he served as executive vice president and chief medical officer of a national managed behavioral health organization, working closely with several Fortune 100 companies. He twice served as chairman of the Association for Behavioral Health and Wellness (ABHW) (formerly the American Managed Behavioral Healthcare Association AMBHA). He has served on several federal government committees, including a three-year term on the National Advisory Committee for the Center for Mental Health Services arm of SAMHSA.Dr. Shaffer, a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, is a board-certified psychiatrist certified in addiction medicine and has received fellowship training in child psychiatry. He received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba and psychiatry and child psychiatry training at the University of Southern California. Dr. Shaffer was also awarded a Master�s degree in Medical Management from Tulane University. |
