Ian E. DeMello joins mCapitol Management as a Legislative Assistant and brings experience in the areas of not-for-profits, international affairs, U.S. foreign policy and government relations.Prior to joining mCapitol, Mr. DeMello gained experience in public affairs, media and event planning as an Assistant Account Executive to the president of Powell Tate|Weber Shandwick, a leading communications and public affairs firm inWashington, D.C. In addition to his work with Powell Tate he has assisted in the coordination of a number of events, including the groundbreaking of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall, press conferences, campaign fundraising events and trade association conferences.Mr. DeMello previously worked as a Legislative Assistant in a boutique international law firm where he formed a solid foundation in advanced legal and policy research. He also assisted in drafting District and Supreme Court filings and legislative efforts on issues of international law, treaties, trademarks and US-Latin American relations. During this time, he also helped clients navigate the Office of Foreign Assets Control license travel process and wrote briefs on trade and energy exploration policy in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.In addition to his U.S. government and legal experience, Mr. DeMello has an extensive background in international relations which includes an internship with the European Union Parliamentary Support Program in Cape Town, South Africa where he worked with a number of different parliamentary offices on issues of development and public participation in the legislative process. Mr. DeMello has also lived in Madrid, Spain where he held an internship with Jovenes del Tercer Mundo, an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of youth in the developing world.As Project Manager for Leadership Initiatives, a not-for-profit, Mr. DeMello conducted a successful two month fact finding mission to report on program possibilities in South America. He fostered relationships with key stakeholders in Buenos Aires, including representatives from NGOs, educational institutions and the U.S. State Department.Mr. DeMello, a native of Redwood City, California, holds a Masters of Arts in International Studies and U.S. Foreign Policy from the School of International Service at American University.Ian E.
