Experience:
Ian McDonald concentrates on finance dispute resolution and restructuring and insolvency. He advises on fraud claims and in defending claims brought against banks and other lenders, including large, complex high-value claims and regulatory issues. He also acts on enforcement of lenders' claims against borrowers and guarantors.
Ian also advises on all aspects of insolvency and restructuring matters, including formal and informal insolvency options and enforcement, vulnerable transactions, and asset recovery. He acts for licensed insolvency practitioners, lenders, directors, creditors, and professional indemnity insurers of licensed insolvency practitioners. Ian is a member of the Mayer Brown Subprime Lending Response Team.
Ian "is respected for being 'extremely bright, with a sound knowledge of complex situations'" (Chambers UK 2007). His "understanding of technical issues is second to none" (Chambers UK 2006). He was also highly rated for his "quality of service and efficiency" (Legal 500 2004). He joined Mayer Brown in 1990.

Advised lenders, investors and other stakeholders in SIVs and CDOs on issues arising from the "credit crunch."
Represented Bank of America in proceedings alleging fraudulent trading brought by the liquidators of BCCI.
Advised UBS on the defence of a claim by Real Estate Opportunities Limited, including advice on s348 FSMA 2000.
Acted for administrators of Atkins Nutritionals (United Kingdom) Limited (diet products).
Acted for liquidators of Robin Symes Limited (antiquities).
