Jaime Ardila was appointed president and managing director of GM do Brasil on November 1, 2007. He reports to Maureen Kempston Darkes, GM group vice president and president, GM Latin America, Africa and Middle East (LAAM). He is a member of the LAAM Regional Strategy Board and responsible for GM Mercosur operations.
Prior to this position, Ardila was GM LAAM vice president and chief financial officer beginning March 1, 2003.
Ardila was born in Pereira, Colombia, on July 24, 1955. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogota, Colombia, in 1977, and a master's degree from the London School of Economics in 1981.
Ardila was chief of the economic integration division of the National Planning Department in Colombia in 1981. Later he was named general secretary at the Ministry of Economic Development in Colombia.
In 1984, Ardila joined General Motors Colmotores as export manager and, in 1986, he transferred to the New York Treasurer's Office. In 1988, he became finance manager for GM Europe in the European aftersales organization, based in Germany. In 1990, he was assigned to Vauxhall Motors in England as finance manager, aftersales.
In 1991, Ardila was named treasurer for GM de Mxico and, in 1993, he transferred to General Motors Chile as finance and administration director.
In 1996, he returned to Bogota, Colombia, as president of Rothschild Bank of London. In 1998, he rejoined GM as president of General Motors Ecuador and, in 1999, he transferred to Colombia as president of General Motors Colmotores. In 2001, he was appointed president and managing director of GM Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. |
