PRO: Jamaica Rector was signed as a free agent following the 2005 NFL Draft and attended training camp with the Dallas Cowboys. Following training camp he was signed to the Cowboys practice squad where he remained for the season.
COLLEGE: Rector left Northwest Missouri State as the most productive receiver in school and conference history. He finished as the first four-time All-MIAA selection and became the MIAA's all-time leading receiver in yards with 4,497 yards on 289 receptions. Those career totals were also good for second on the NCAA yardage list and third in receptions. He also set school records for career punt return yardage (1,404), punt returns (112), kick return average (27.5) and touchdown receptions (38). As a senior, Rector finished with 87 catches for 1,203 yards and a career-best 15 touchdowns. He added 15 kickoff returns for a 24.0-yard average and 29 punt returns for a 16.6 average. As a junior, he hauled in 63 passes for 971 yards and eight scores while averaging 32.7 yards-per-kickoff return and posting 20 punt returns for 316 yards. He notched a career-best 1,242 receiving yards with six touchdowns on 78 receptions as a sophomore. As a freshman, Rector finished with 61 catches for 1,081 yards and nine touchdowns. He returned 11 kickoffs for a 27.5 average and 18 punts for a 10.0-yard average.
PERSONAL: Rector was a two-way all-state performer for Celeste, Texas, High School in both track and football. As a senior, he was named Texas Class 1A Defensive Player of the Year. He earned his degree in parks and recreation and also lettered in baseball, basketball and tennis at Celeste. As a rookie last year, Rector was a member of the Cowboys 2005 Rookie Club - a program designed to introduce rookie team members to community service in the Dallas area which included work with The Salvation Army, Children's Medical Center Dallas and Meals on Wheels. |
