On November 15, 1988, James A. Armour was named president of what would become AM General, while it was still the vehicle manufacturing unit of LTV Aerospace and Defense Company. Prior to this appointment, Armour served as vice president and HUMVEE program manager. In this position, he was responsible for monitoring the relationship between AM General and its principal customer, the US Army Tank-Automotive Command. Before that, he was vice president of materials and quality assurance. Armour joined LTV in 1983 as AM General corporate director of quality assurance. From 1972 to 1983, Armour held a variety of management positions at American Motors Corporation. While serving as operations manager, he helped launch the Renault Alliance, which received the coveted Motor Trend Car of the Year Award. Before joining American Motors, Armour spent eight years with Ford Motor Company in various management functions. Armour's career also includes public service as a project leader for the Peace Corps in South America, where he was responsible for improving the general well-being of 12,000 natives of the County of Rivera, Huila, in Colombia |
