James C. Foster is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charles River Laboratories, a leading, global provider of solutions that advance the drug discovery and development process. Over the past 28 years at Charles River, Mr. Foster has held a variety of positions including: Vice President of Administration and General Counsel, President of Charles River Biotechnical Services, and Executive Vice President, Charles River. Mr. Foster was named President in 1991, Chief Executive Officer in 1992, and Chairman in 2000.
One of the highlights under Mr. Foster�s direction at Charles River has been leveraged buy-out of the company in 1999 while a subsidiary of Bausch & Lomb. Six months after taking the company private, he took the company public where it now trades on the NYSE.
In October 2002, Mr. Foster was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Forbes Magazine. The publication cited him for dramatically increasing profitability by taking the company into new directions through both acquisition and organic growth.
Mr. Foster serves on the board of Titterington�s Olde English Bake Shop, Ltd, and the Deans Advisory Council, Sloan School of Management, MIT. Mr. Foster also holds the position of Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program at Tufts University. He is a member of the Visits Committee for Contemporary Art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, as well as the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park. He has been a guest lecturer at MIT, Brandeis University, Northeastern University, Tufts University, and The Olin School of Business at Washington University.
Mr. Foster holds a B.A. degree in psychology from Lake Forest College, an M.S. degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar and the American Bar Association. He and his wife, Audrey, have two sons. |
