Jim has over 30 years of experience in defending professional liability claims. He is especially experienced in the defense of medical malpractice claims against physicians, hospitals and other health care providers. His experience includes pre-claim management, medical review panel procedures, jury trials in both State and Federal Courts, and the appeal process all the way to the Indiana Supreme Court. He has been one of the first to use presentation and computer technology in jury trials in Northwest Indiana courtrooms.The services provided to clients by Mr. McQuillan are not limited to management of the strictly legal aspects of claims. Jim concentrates his practice in civil litigation involving personal injury and professional malpractice defense. He frequently handles death, neurological, and serious disability injury cases relating to obstetrics, pediatrics, cardiology and orthopedics. He was involved in the seminal medical malpractice case resulting in the Indiana Supreme Court's upholding of the constitutionality of the Indiana Medical Malpractice Act. He has successfully tried a wide variety of medical malpractice cases to verdict in state and federal courts. Jim has been actively committed to continuing education both on a personal and professional basis. He had taken over 130 undergraduate and graduate level courses in the humanities and sciences including anatomy and physiology, the history of science, and the history of scientific medicine. He has also served as a speaker at many hospital "in service" presentations, privately sponsored nurses continuing education courses, and as a presenter at professional insurance carrier risk management programs.
