James J. Shield oversees Calpine's operating portfolio of clean, efficient and reliable natural gas-fired power plants in the US eastern markets. This portfolio includes 33 plants with a total generation capacity in excess of 11,500 megawatts. Mr. Shield joined Calpine when the company acquired SkyGen in 2000 and served previously as Senior Vice President, Business Development. Mr. Shield has over 20 years of experience in power plant design, thermal cycle analysis and project management for coal, natural gas, and wood, solar, and nuclear projects. He has personally created technical specifications for all equipment and design parameters for various simple cycle and combined cycle cogeneration projects. In addition, he has performed the detailed design of a 600 MW coal - fired project, an 80 MW solar project and various retrofit projects on fossil and nuclear plants. Mr. Shield holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a master of business administration degree from DePaul University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois. |
